Modern ways is a traditional old hotel
This hotel is right on the edge of the down town area of Tampere, so an easy walk to all the restaurants and shops etc.
It is a really lovely hotel, incorporating all the charm of a bygone era with modern features.
Check in was effortless. The staff are divine, very helpful and always willing to talk. The room was compact but ideal for my needs with a nice view over the park.
There is a lovely corridor leading to a large restaurant with wood panelling, harking back to the 20's and 30's, with old photos adding to the ambience. Downstairs is a busting Trattoria serving good food. Would recommend the set menu.
All in all a very nice hotel and I will definitely stay here again when next in Tampere.
A Grand Hotel Returned to Former Glory
The Grand Tampere is not particularly attractive on the outside – a somewhat plain and boxy multi-story brick building near the river that runs through Tampere. But inside it has a classic elegance that has been masterfully restored and updated. If you like places that have history and character and are also comfortable and good value, this is for you. We enjoyed our stay here and recommend it highly. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in mid-August, ‘19, about three years after its renovation.
The hotel is well-located in the historic mill district, where a number of companies took advantage of the power generated by the swift-moving water channel that connects the two lakes on either side of Tampere. The old mills and warehouses have been converted into shops, restaurants, concert venues, and museums, making this an interesting place to visit for a few days. The Grand Tampere is within easy walking distance from the center of the action, just across the river. There are a few parking places available for 18 euro p/d right in front of the hotel, and public parking structures close by.
The renovation has returned the hotel to its 1929 former glory, but with modern conveniences like outlets near the bed, flat screen tv, etc. The lobby is beautifully furnished, as are the adjoining sitting areas (be sure to look at the old photos that line the hall off the lobby). The restaurant where breakfast is served is an elegant space with soaring ceilings and crystal chandeliers. The restoration here and throughout the hotel was meticulous, and deserves a close look at the details. The craftsmen who did the restoration were clearly top notch.
Our room (622) was very large and comfortable, attractively decorated in period style. Large windows gave us a view of a small lake and park. The room had a very comfortable king bed, desk, minibar, safe, large closet, and two night stands. The wifi in the room was strong and fast. The tiled bathroom was good-sized with a glass enclosed shower and pedestal sink that didn’t provide much room for toiletries. Everything was in an old-time style but sparkling new. The only issues were minor – a leaky shower door and the toilet often made a load whistling sound as it refilled.
The breakfast buffet was excellent with a large selection of well-prepared items.
All in all we enjoyed our stay here very much highly recommend the Grand Tampere if you are spending time in this area.
Great stay in Tampere
Have stayed in this exceptional hotel on prior business trip and when returning to the area for leisure did not look farther. Staff so helpful, room was excellent as well as breakfast.
You will not be disappointed in your stay here.
